Dennis Hare
|
This exhibit
includes examples from the artists two main bodies of work, mixing
both the real with the abstract. The artworks in this exhibit combine
his early interests in figuration with his fervor for richly expressionist
impasto works, merged with a wealth of found objects. Whether combining
protruding globules of paint, newsprint, metal, rope, fabrics, wood, or
other found and crushed materials, Dennis Hare builds upon his previously
flat canvas with familiar yet abstracted forms and figures. Silhouetted
figures appear, disappear, and then reappear again as paint and texture
merge with the surface. Hare imbues his art and life with a unique visceral
energy that activates both mind and soul. He describes his painting process
much like a dance, where the union of paint and object are
both physical and rhythmic, needing to be viewed both up-close and at
a distance. Hare has exhibited widely throughout the United States and
Mexico, focusing on Expressive Figure Painting, and 2nd Generation, Contemporary
Bay Area Painters. |
