LAWRENCE FODOR’s calligraphic marks that are buried and layered sometimes form what appears to be ligature, but is purely a combination of marks running together, sometimes with specific intentions, but most often intuitive and random. A created language, if you will, buried in the paintings whose definitions are determined by the viewer.  In a recent conversation about this new body of work, Lawrence Fodor stated: When I work there is a sweeping away of external awareness and predetermination. Passages are revealed with open doors accessing the core of my emotional understanding, much like fusion jazz (in particular Miles Davis) maneuvers to the heart of human sensations. Often there is resistance, but the resolve to inquire runs strong, and with persistent marks of paint I am rewarded with truths and realizations of the self.  It is my hope that these paintings carry corresponding possibilities for the viewer.
