In field equations: an (accidental) self-portrait Gee explores the powerful, evocative force of ordinary objects left in the wake of a loved one's death. Redefined by the artist as "readymades," this collection of audio tracks, video out-takes, disparate objects (embedded by the artist in lucite), capture and reflect the influence of an individual life. Effortlessly, they have become an immediate, though accidental, self-portrait. The exhibit touches on issues that swirl around human death - the raw power of the traces we leave in the things we use and touch, love and loss, the mystery of our ultimate "disappearance." In the end it leaves us asking: of whom is it an (accidental) self-portrait? |
